Two contrasting portrait sessions — a bright studio couple shot and a moody vintage-inspired solo portrait — are refined through targeted skin retouching and color grading to elevate their final polish.
ABOUT THE WORK
This project demonstrates portrait retouching applied across two very different photographic styles. The first is a formal couple portrait shot against a green backdrop, where subtle skin smoothing and blemish removal were applied to both subjects, along with tonal adjustments to create a more even, professional finish while preserving natural skin texture. The second is a solo portrait set in a richly decorated vintage room, where the retouching focused on refining skin tone, enhancing the warm ambient lighting, and deepening the color saturation of the ornate background to strengthen the overall mood and cinematic quality of the shot.
The core challenge across both images was achieving natural-looking enhancement without over-processing. For the couple portrait, this meant balancing skin retouching between two different subjects under the same lighting while keeping facial features and expressions authentic. For the solo portrait, the challenge was enhancing the complex warm color palette and directional lighting of the vintage set without flattening the depth or losing the moodiness of the original ambient tones, all while keeping the subject's skin looking soft yet realistic.
Both portraits emerged with a refined, professional finish appropriate to their respective styles — one clean and classic, the other warm and atmospheric. The retouching preserved authenticity and skin texture in both cases, resulting in polished final images ready for print or professional portfolio use, while showcasing versatility in handling different lighting conditions and subject compositions.
